What To Expect
Teeth Cleanings are usually performed by our dental hygienist. Before the actual cleaning is done the first step is to do a brief exam of the entire mouth. For children who are still getting in new teeth we will look to see which ones are in and how many are baby teeth verses adult teeth. Using a small mirror for guidance the hygienist will gently remove any access tartar from the gum line and then the teeth are brushed and flossed. During this process is where we can educate our patients to ensure they have the proper brushing and flossing techniques to have the best oral care at home.
Fluoride Treatments & X-Rays
The last step is to apply the fluoride treatment. This is an important step to help fight against cavities till you return to the dentist in 6 months. Cleanings are done at all routine check-ups but the dentist may want to do a new round of x-rays depending on the hygienist findings, if you are having any issues or for children who are gaining and loosing teeth.
